It all began, as it so often does, with a dream. Our 30-acre parcel was an empty hay field when we discovered it ‘for sale’ on a drive down the back roads of Armada, Michigan twenty years ago. The property is edged by corn fields to the north and south and backed by woods to the east. Across the road lies Coon Creek, a tributary to the Clinton River.

Today, Sheepy Hollow Farm is home to me, Jenny, the fiber artist/gardener, my husband, Dennis, chief engineer, and our kids, Matt & Katie. Over the years as our experience and knowledge has grown, so has our farmstead. We have added theme gardens, barns and outbuildings to house our ever-expanding barnyard menagerie of horses, sheep, dairy goats, chickens, rabbits, dogs & cats.

Normally you’ll find me in the barn before sunrise taking care of the animals and poking around the garden.

What seems a life-time ago, I worked 23 years in the automotive industry specializing in environmental engineering & wastewater management. So, it was natural for me to incorporate sustainable, environmentally friendly farming methods into our routine daily farm chores.

With parents originating in the ‘old country’, I’ve always been interested in gardening, animals and antiques. Annual treks to local fiber festivals resulted in the purchase of a trio of Shetland sheep. Over the past ten years, we have lovingly maintained a small flock of Shetlands and added a few different breeds for fleece color and texture. We recently acquired a Shetland ram to breed with our Shetland ewes. Our animals enjoy freedom of movement and live in a setting natural to their species.

Along the way, crafting hand-made soap and an interest in cheesemaking, lead to the purchase of our dairy goats, whom I absolutely adore!

Most days you’ll find me at home in the garden or studio creating one-of-a-kind sheepy folk art, woolens, hand-stirring a batch of fresh goat’s milk soap or preparing herbal sundries with just-picked organic herbs!

Each season brings new inspiration, new life and a time to reflect. We invite visitors to our farmstead to enjoy the sights, smells and tastes of the season. Hope to see you soon!
